If you would like to head out for day trips here is a few local spots to consider.

Hale, Michigan

We have numerouse lakes, ponds and streams and the Au Sable River offering some of the best fresh water fishing in the nation. We are the gateway to the Huron National Forest. Winter sports enthusiasts have great opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The River Road Scenic By-Way is one of the most beautiful rides you will ever take in the fall.

Rifle River Recreation Area

Rifle River Recreation Area provides year-round recreation opportunities, including fishing, paddling, swimming, hiking, mountain biking and more. The park is home to 10 no-wake lakes and ponds, including Grousehaven and Devoe, the Rifle River and several scenic streams. There is an observation tower located along Ridge Road overlooking many of the parks features and a swinging (suspension) bridge across the Rifle River.

West Branch, MI

The City of West Branch is a unique and wonderful community that serves as the county seat for Ogemaw County, Michigan.  Consisting of approximately 1.53 square miles of land, West Branch has a population of just over 2,100 citizens.  The City itself is home to many great attractions, including our downtown shopping district, as well as beautiful Iron's Park and our Downtown Park. As a beautiful place to live, work, and play, we invite you to come and "Discover West Branch!"

Tawas, MI

Located about 25 minutes east of our campground
 

Tawas City, the county seat of Iosco County, is home to 1,827 people (2010, U.S. Census). Tawas City has a total area of 2.1 square miles and overlooks beautiful Lake Huron on Michigan’s Sunrise Side Coastal Highway Heritage Route. Tawas City is on Tawas Bay and home to several parks and beautiful beaches.

Tawas City is the first major community on Lake Huron traveling north on U.S. 23 from the urbanized areas of southeastern Michigan. For the northbound traveler, only occasional glimpses of Lake Huron are possible prior to reaching Tawas City. Similarly, Tawas City is the entrance to Lake Huron for traffic originating in the central portions of the state and traveling east on M-55. Tawas City is the southernmost city directly on Lake Huron offering a full variety of recreation activities with the quality “up north” character that residents and visitors highly value.
